Project 1 (Does not need to be handed in, but will be used for Project 3)
Directions
  • Read Kist’s book
  • Self-reflection Journal Entry: Identify where you are in your ability to utilize technology. Are you a “Short,” “Tall,” “Grande,” or “Venti” as Kist describes in his book? What is your comfort zone?
Checklist criteria
  1. Describe where you are in your technology ability
  2. Describe attributes from Kist’s book that you would like to possess
  3. Refer to the book for ideas and descriptors
  4. Write so you will be able to infuse these ideas into your final paper

Project 2 (Due July 10 – 15, 2012)
Directions
  • Adapt a lesson for your classroom utilizing a technology strategy. Many ideas are mentioned in Kist’s book. Post on Wiki. Learn with others: Read and discuss with your group
Checklist criteria
  1. Rewrite a lesson plan including the following criteria:
  • Objective
  • Standards
  • Technology strategy utilized
  • Introduction
  • Lesson details
  • Conclusion
  • Adaptations for students (if applicable)
  1. Post your 1 – 2 page lesson plan on Wiki with a short rationale comment
  2. Read and react to at least 3 members of your group

Project 3 (Due July 23, 2012 by Midnight)
Directions
  • Read Coiro’s article – on Wiki
  • Connect research to practice by relating Coiro’s study with Kist’s practices. Write a 1- 2 page reaction paper regarding how the technology and strategy employed in your lesson plan (Project 2) will support online comprehension in your discipline. Include how this activity stretched your technology use by returning to your reflection ideas.
Checklist criteria
  • Refer to ideas from Coiro and Kist as you write your reaction paper
  • Include ideas from your first reflection project
  • Your short paper should address the following two questions.
  1. How did your thinking about technology change during MTI? Use examples.
  2. How does the technology strategy you employed in Project 2 align with the research described by Coiro? Be specific.
